The Script Analysis workshop is designed to demystify the role of the Coverage Writer (also known as the Script Reader).
This key professional plays a critical role in the decision-making process for film and television projects. They are the first step in assessing which projects are ready for production and which ones need further development to become “screen-ready.”
What is Script Coverage? What is the purpose of a Coverage Report? And in a field as subjective as art, how can we objectively evaluate what makes a screen story work?

Metodología
With some cross-over instruction on the fundamentals of screenwriting (what makes for a strong protagonist, engaging dialogue, or an effective story arc, etc.), students will learn to critically assess all components of a screenplay—from technical structure and story development to social impact and commercial viability in today’s marketplace.
Using examples from real movie scripts, students will explore common problems and trends in screenwriting. They will then write a coverage report on a feature screenplay, with feedback shared and discussed in the group.

Sara de Jong is a freelance script reader and coverage writer with 10 years of experience in the film and television industry, specializing in content development and acquisitions.
After earning a Bachelor's Degree in Film and Media Production, she began her career at Phase 4 Films Inc., where she began her script reading career. Sara has since worked with major companies like Netflix, Entertainment One, and Quiver Distribution.
Her work focuses on script coverage that evaluates screenplays not only for their overall quality, but also their social impact, market potential, and audience resonance - helping to elevate stories while maintaining the integrity of the writer's vision.
